Here's what people say about Candlelight Cottage:
It was the week before Christmas and it was very cold. However the
welcome at Candlelight Cottage was anything but! – a twinkling Christmas
tree, chocolates and champagne in the fridge, cake, bread, biscuits etc.
etc. in a most comprehensive pack of goodies. Simon and Jill really do
know how to pamper their guests. The lounge was stylish yet so cosy.
Everything was spotless and we enjoyed a very happy and relaxing few
days. Sunday lunch at The Red Lion was delicious. Thank you Jill and
Simon.

We so enjoyed our stay at the cottage. We have travelled
extensively in recent years and have never received a welcome pack as
comprehensive AND delicious as the Candlelight version -- especially the
chocs and champagne!
The cottage was so spotless, very well equipped and stylish to the last
detail. Your twinkling Christmas tree and subtle decorations were
beautiful, and the cosy stove created the ideal atmosphere
following our days out in the freezing temperatures of December 2010.
We wish you and your family a most pleasant Festive Season.
Very Best Wishes, P and JW
Belgian bloggers "Tasting & Living #3" recently stayed with us - here's an extract from their blog: We decided on Litton because we were visiting some stately homes, like Chatsworth, Harwick Hall and Keddleston Hall, all of which are in easy reach from the village.
Our choice of cottage fell on Candlelight Cottage, right across from the Red Lion pub (listed in some good pub food guides). It’s half of a house (the left part) and has all modern conveniences that you would need for a comfortable stay in Derbyshire. A cosy lounge with gas fire, 2 bedrooms, bathroom and a very nice kitchen. All foodies out there will note that the kitchen has an AGA cooker and also a more modern cooker. So if you would want to use the AGA, let Simon Wills (the charming owner of the cottage) know a day in advance to start-up the beast. There’s also some literature in kitchen to figure out how and what to do when you wish to cook on it. I don’t think it’s an easy undertaking so if it fails, you can also go for the electrical cooker. We were graciously met by Simon and found the cottage to be spotlessly clean and more than adequate. Read their full blog.
We had a wonderful time at Candlelight Cottage Litton
this spring. It is an invaluable experience to spend our holiday in such
a characteristic English home while enjoying the benefits of an
ecologically conscious household, which is exactly what Candlelight
Cottage provided us with. The house itself is equipped with everything
one would possibly need (and much more) and the welcome pack the owners
so kindly offer to guests can prove life-saving if you arrive late in
the evening…The house is a rustic building ... ... but cleverly and
stylishly blended with modern technology. The owners were very helpful
all along, they were careful to tell us everything we needed to know
about the house and facilities. Also, they were exceptionally open and
flexible when it came to questions. We were lucky enough to have spent a
perfect holiday in Peak District with most beautiful weather, lots of
sunshine and the friendliest locals on earth. Staying at Candlelight
Cottage made our holiday even more complete.

Thank you for the warm hospitality. All the extra
goodies made us feel very welcome here. Only problem, we don’t want to
leave!

So completely equipped we brought along a
lot of stuff we didn’t need because it was all provided. So
exceptionally clean we felt we were the first guests to ever stay there.

Our second visit was not a disappointment –
the cottage as lovely as ever. Thanks to Simon and Jill for another
great holiday.

Andrew and I so enjoyed
your cottage, every detail had been so carefully thought of and the
cottage is very lovingly looked after. The decor and the well planned
lighting really suit the cottage. We found everything we needed plus
more, i.e. ground coffee, tea, olive oil etc, so many details on the
area's attractions and walks that it would have taken a whole week to
read them - I just wish we had had a week and not just three nights, oh,
and of course the Bakewell tart, fresh bread and milk. It is the most
well equipped self catering accommodation I have ever stayed in, and it
was lovely and warm in cold November. Thank you so much.

Thank you. We have had a wonderful holiday so much to
see and do. The cottage is beautiful, comfy and cosy. Found the people
in Litton really friendly. Great meals at the pub and delicious cake at
the shop. We needed some long walks to burn off some calories; need to
go home for a rest.

One of the best cottages I have stayed in. Lovely to
have a kitchen that you can actually cook in with all the necessary
equipment. Not such good weather but warm and cosy indoors at least.

A delightful cottage in which to spend Christmas. Warm,
cosy, spotless, so tastefully decorated and incredibly well equipped.
The extras you provided were much appreciated. We found this an ideal
location to access superb walks both in the Dales and up on the Moors
and Edges.

Shame you can’t get 6 stars.
